€13 Billion Apple unpaid tax ruling upheld by top European court

The European Court of Justice (ECJ) - Europe's highest level of court - has ruled that the European Commission was correct in it's decision that Apple owed Ireland 13 Billion euro in unpaid tax.
The Commission's decision had previously been quashed when the General Court in Luxembourg - the next level down from the ECJ - had said that the Commission had "erred" in it's finding of the decision.
The verdict by the ECJ now means Apple must release the money - currently held in an escrow account, and last valued at 13.8 Billion - to the Irish State.
The Irish Government - which was said to be shocked and surprised at the ruling - has been accused of spending over €8 Million siding with Apple in opposing the European Commission's ruling since it was made in 2016.
